Japan Coast Guard Takes AW139s

The Japan Coast Guard has taken delivery of three AW139s from AgustaWestland and Mitsui Bussan Aerospace, the manufacturer’s distributor in Japan. The agency plans to deploy the medium twins at bases throughout Japan to perform maritime search and rescue and patrol missions. Ordered in late 2006, the aircraft are the initial phase of a program to replace up to 24 helicopters and are equipped for all-weather, day/night, and ship-based operations.
