Third Week for Calif. Fire Support

Aircraft of the U.S. Air Force’s 302nd Air Expeditionary Group began their third week of coordinated efforts to control wildfires in California. The 302nd AEG aerial assets have conducted nearly 1,000 drops, delivering more than 1,360,000 gallons of fire retardant and water to the blazing wildfires. The 302nd AEG comprises eight Air Force modular airborne firefighting system-capable C-130 Hercules aircraft and six Marine Corps helicopters operating out of McClellan Airfield in Sacramento, Calif. and two Navy Reserve helicopters operating from Naval Air Station Lemoore, Calif. The 302nd AEG provides unique capabilities and is part of a unified military support effort of U.S. Northern Command to provide assistance to the U.S. Forest Service, the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection and the National Interagency Fire Center.
