Report: Drones Focus of South Florida Task Force

Law enforcement and aviation officials in Miami, Florida, have formed a task force to deal with unmanned aircraft, according a local TV news report. WTVJ said the task force is being led by the state attorney for the Miami-Dade County jurisdiction and includes representatives of the Miami Dade Police, the City of Miami Police, the FBI and the FAA. The area is one of the busiest in the U.S. for commercial, business and general aviation flights. The news report said the task force is focused initially on developing rules for police responding to emergency calls about drones and educating the public about what drones can and can't do. It also aims to educate hobbyists about the hazards of operating their drones near other aircraft. Citing FAA data, the report said 93 of 764 encounters between drones and manned aircraft through August of this year occurred in Florida.
