Lockheed, Sikorsky Join Forces on VXX

Stratford, Conn.-based Sikorsky Aircraft and Lockheed Martin have launched a bid to offer the H-92T for the U.S. Navy’s VXX Presidential Helicopter program. In 2005, AgustaWestland and Lockheed Martin beat out a Sikorsky-led team for a contract to replace the Marine One fleet with the US101, a variant of the AgustaWestland EH101. But the Pentagon cancelled that agreement in 2009, noting cost overruns. Under the new proposal, Sikorsky would build the airframes and Lockheed Martin would be responsible for the H-92’s integrated systems. Meanwhile, reports surfaced in early May that Boeing is planning to offer its MV-22 Osprey tiltrotor in the competition for the new White House fleet of helicopters. Stay tuned...
