AD Covers Bell 222 Piston Rods

FAA has issued an emergency airworthiness directive (AD) for the Bell 222, including the B and U models, and the Bell 230 and 430. The AD is related to a malfunction of the main rotor servo actuator that caused the piston rod to fracture due to stress corrosion cracking. According to FAA, “nonconforming grind relief” was found on a separate piston rod during the investigation that prompted the AD. The agency is requiring operators to perform a series of inspections within five flying hours of receiving the AD.
