Kaman Builds Orders for Re-Launched K-MAX

Kaman Aerospace Group has received its first K-MAX orders from a Chinese customer, the company said. Lectern Aviation Supplies Co., Ltd., an aircraft and parts dealer and aviation services company based in Hong Kong, ordered two of the coaxial utility helicopters for a 2017 delivery, Kaman said, with the aircraft to perform firefighting duties with China’s forestry department. The Bloomfield, Connecticut-headquartered manufacturer restarted K-MAX production earlier this year from a 12-year lapse after receiving orders from Rotex Helicopter AG of Switzerland and Helicopter Express of Chamblee, Georgia, as well as interest from the U.S. Interior Dept. in the unmanned version it developed with Lockheed Martin. Last month, those companies demonstrated the Unmanned K-MAX’s firefighting capabilities in Boise, Idaho, for officials of that department and the U.S. Forest Service. Regarding the latest order, Kaman’s K-MAX business director, Terry Fogarty, said, “The Chinese market possesses significant market potential for the K-MAX, and we are working to capitalize on these additional opportunities.”
