AW139s to Serve Japan, China
AgustaWestland and Mitsui Bussan Aerospace have received an order for three AW139s from the Japan National Police Agency. Tokyo Metropolitan Police, Nagaono Police and Hokkaido Police will use the three helicopters in multiple roles, with entry into service projected for spring 2013.
The helicopters will come equipped with a number of features, including Cineflex camera, satellite-based augmentation system (SBAS), searchlight, TCAS, cargo hook, weather radar, EGPWS, rescue hoist, loudspeaker and snow pads.
Other AW139 Asian activity includes Qinghai Zhingao Natural Gas and Chemical of China ordering two AW139s for VIP transport. A rescue hoist and FLIR camera will be installed on one of the helicopters for a combined VIP and utility modification. The modified AW139 will fly out of the Qinghai province in Western China while the second will be based out of the Sichuan province in Southwest China.
Also adding AgustaWestland to its fleet is the Public Security Bureau of Ordos, in China’s Inner Mongolia. The bureau has ordered two GrandNew variants for public service, transport and civil protection missions.
