German Police Fly By 100,000 Hours
The Eurocopter EC135 fleet of the German Federal Police has surpassed 100,000 flight hours, according to the manufacturer. The all-Eurocopter fleet is one of the largest parapublic operators in the world with 41 EC135s. The German Federal Aviation Group flies more than 80 helicopters, including training EC120s, air ambulance and law enforcement EC135 T2is, EC155Bs for transportation, and AS332 L1 Super Pumas for VIP transport, maritime missions and disaster relief. The mission which saw the EC135 reach the flight hour milestone was flown at night with night vision goggles (NVGs) and a FLIR camera pursuing fleeing suspects at a railway, said Thomas Helbig, head of the German Federal Police Air Support Service.
