has issued a group of four airworthiness directives (ADs) related to the Eurocopter
AS350/355, 365 and the MBB/Eurocopter
BK117. One of the ADs requires inspections of the Aerazur emergency flotation gear, including the attachment brackets on the AS350 (models B, BA, B1, B2, B3, C, D and D1) and AS355 (models E, F, F1, F2 N and NP) after cracks were discovered in the brackets. Another AD asks AS350/355 operators to inspect for cracks in the rear roller support shaft and rear fitting of the helicopter's sliding door.
In a separate AD, FAA
is requiring inspection of the BK117's long tail rotor drive shaft assembly. Maintainers are being instructed to search for blind rivets on the C-2 variant of the BK117, after several were discovered in the place of solid rivets. The final AD applies to examining the 9-degree frame of the AS365 series for cracking, including models N, N1, N2, N3 and G1. The directives were issued as a final rule on May 1, and apply to more than 800 helicopters in the U.S.
