Rotorcraft Report: U.K. Helicopter Museum Wins Education Grant

EDUCATION

The United Kingdom’s Helicopter Museum at Weston-super-Mare in Somerset has been awarded a £290,500 ($494,700) grant from that nation’s Heritage Lottery Fund towards new education, skills training and conservation facilities. The museum claims to hold the world’s largest dedicated collection of rotary-wing aircraft and recently completed a £150,000 ($279,800) hangar extension.

Part of the grant will be used to construct a new maintenance, restoration, and training facility of about 669 sq m (7,200 sq ft). A new technical library and archive facility, a classroom and film theater, as well as display space, will be added. The museum is negotiating for its use by the CAA and EASA for helicopter engineering courses.
