Eurocopter Tests Hybrid Helicopter
Eurocopter has conducted airborne testing of a hybrid helicopter that uses a turboshaft internal combustion engine with an electric motor and lithium ion polymer battery. The hybrid is a production version of the AS350 with a supplemental electric system. The electrical systems and motor on the helicopter increase the pilot’s maneuverability during descent and autorotation by delivering power from the motor, according to the manufacturer.
