Rotorcraft Report: Russian Helicopter Industry Teams With Agustawestland, Pratt

PRODUCTS

The Russian aerospace conglomerate Oboronprom struck two partnerships with Western aviation manufacturers at the HeliRussia trade exhibition in May.

AgustaWestland unveiled a pact to eventually maintain and produce its aircraft in Russia. Pratt & Whitney Canada agreed with Oboronprom’s Helicopters of Russia to provide engines for the Mi-38.

AW kicked off a two-stage collaboration with Oboronprom with an order for 10 aircraft from Loyd’s Investments Corp., a Russian-based firm that markets aircraft in Eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union. The €65 million ($100 million) order includes two AW119Kes, two AW109 Powers, four A109S Grands and two AW139s.

In the second stage, the companies would set up joint maintenance centers for AW helicopters in Russia, then joint production of them in the European part of Russia for domestic and international markets.

Pratt & Whitney Canada agreed to produce PW127TS engines for Helicopters of Russia’s new, twin-engine Mi-38. It would work with Ufa Engine Industrial Assn and the Central Institute of Aviation Motors to P&WC to develop the engine and gain certification of it from Transport Canada and Russian authorities.
