U.S. Nixes Helicopter Deal for Russian Mi-17s
The U.S. House of Representatives has voted to halt a Pentagon contract with Russian Helicopters subsidiary, Rosoboronexport, for 10 additional Mi-17s and modifications on an existing fleet of 23 helicopters. DoD issued the $171-million single-source bid contract last week with the intention of incorporating the helicopters into service in Afghanistan. The deal called for modifications to take place in Russia through December 2016.
