Report: Ecuador Cuts Dhruv Contract
Ecuador is ending its contract with Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd. for Dhruv military helicopters, the Associated Press reports, citing comments by that South American nation's defense minister, Fernando Cordero. The Indian manufacturer delivered seven Dhruvs; four reportedly have crashed, including one assigned to President Rafael Correa (who was not in the aircraft at the time). The three remaining Dhruvs have been grounded, the AP said, adding that Ecuador earlier complained that HAL had failed to ship some parts for the helicopters, which were purchased for a total of $45.2 million.
