Eurocopter Formalizes Turbomeca TM800 Selection for X4

Safran Group subsidiary Turbomeca has reached an agreement to provide its TM800 engine for the Eurocopter X4 future helicopter, the planned replacement for the AS365/EC155 Dauphin. The formal contract comes five months after Turbomeca CEO Olivier Andries first mentioned the five to six-ton class, 1,100 shp (800kW) powerplant would be linked to the X4 during Heli-Expo in February. As part of Eurocopter’s “two-engine strategy” for all of its in-development helicopters, the manufacturer selected Pratt & Whitney Canada to provide its 1,000-shp PW210E for the X4 as well. Turbomeca will develop and certify the TM800 in parallel with the X4’s target entry into service during 2017.
