Rotorcraft Report: Eurocopter Open Production Plant in Spain
Eurocopter chief Lutz Bertling and the president of Spain’s Castilla-La Mancha Autonomous Community, José María Barreda, opened a production plant in Albacete, Spain March 29. The nation and manufacturer look to establish a permanent helicopter industry in Spain.
The 15-hectare (37-acre) site will have 33,000 sq m (355,200 sq ft) of covered production facilities, including EC135, NH90 and Tiger hangars and is scheduled for completion in 2010. Spain’s interior ministry is acquiring 48 EC135s, mainly for emergency medical services and law enforcement. The defense ministry has ordered four EC135s for EMS as well as 45 NH90s. Spain’s army has ordered 24 Tiger combat helicopters.
