Enstrom signed contracts for a 480B for delivery to Aero Inter of the Dominican Republic and another for Aerolineas Ejecutivas, its fourth such Enstrom in as many months.
The newly established airborne law enforcement unit of the Plaquemines Parish, La. sheriff’s office took delivery of a Model 480B Guardian (shown above), becoming Enstrom’s third U.S. customer for the 480B and its 25th worldwide.
Enstrom President Jerry Mullins said Enstrom hopes to gain orders for the 480B from customers who had been considering the now-canceled Bell Helicopter 206B3.
The Plaquemines Parish 480B is equipped with a cargo hook, a Spectrolab SX-5 searchlight and a Gyrocam infrared camera system. Sheriff’s office pilot Patrick Becnel will begin training to operate the Chelton Flight System 3D synthetic-vision electronic flight instrumentation system 6.0B glass cockpit on the 480B, the first such installation in an OEM helicopter.
Another 480B is bound for the Dominican Republic by mid-year. Aero Inter’s 480B is equipped with a Life Port Litter, which is the first example on this model, and the Chelton EFIS. The latest 480B for Aerolineas Ejecutivas is fitted with special mounts and equipment for a high-definition aerial mapping and filming project beginning in Mexico City in June. The 480B is equipped with a Cineflex V14-4 HD camera to serve not only in the mapping project, but to gather and archive file footage for use in Mexican and other broadcast networks. — Thomas McKenna
