Rotorcraft Report: MD Reports Orders for 11 Aircraft

HELITECH ’07

MD Helicopters reported at the Helitech trade show that it had recently received orders for 11 aircraft from customers around the world.

The Mesa, Ariz.-based manufacturer said the orders from customers from Switzerland to New Zealand were "a reflection of the continued rise in global sales at the company."

The helicopters will be used by these new operators for a wide range of missions, the company said, saying that diversity underscored the versatility of the MD product line. It said deliveries would begin late this year and early 2008.

Skysales Aviation, an MD distributor in Christchurch, New Zealand, ordered four aircraft-two MD-520Ns, one MD-530F, and one MD-500E). The helicopters will be used for commercial operations, MD said.

MD’s European Support Center in Brussels, Belgium, placed orders for one MD-902 Explorer, one MD-600N and one-MD 520N. The aircraft are earmarked for private operators in Belgium, the manufacturer said.

MD distributor Eastern Atlantic Helicopters purchased two MD 500Es. The helicopters will be flown by private operators for corporate use in the United Kingdom. Eastern Atlantic is based at Shoreham Airport in the United Kingdom.

Aerosales Africa (Pty) Ltd., ordered one MD-530F for a South African entrepreneur who MD said will fly the helicopter to and from his business interests, adding the customer selected that aircraft "for its superior speed, and ability to maintain performance in hot and high conditions." Aerosales is MD’s African distributor.

Fuchs Helicopter, an MD distributor in Schindellegi, Switzerland ordered an MD-500E for its corporate use.

"Increasing global orders reflect the growing confidence of our customers in both our performance and the future of our company," said MD Chairman and CEO Lynn Tilton. "We have made great strides forward and continue to endeavor towards enhanced customer service and increased deliveries. We want our global customers to agree: The Phoenix is Rising."

Tilton, whose New York investment firm Patriarch Partners bought MD in mid-2005, said she now has her own Explorer, which was completed by the company.
