Rotorcraft Report: Helicopter Wish Granted

Personal | Tourism

An 84-year-old nursing home resident had her wish to go airborne in a helicopter fulfilled in September. Nora Baird, who is a resident of Cumberland Village Care and Rehabilitation Center in LaFollette, Tenn., was one of nine people chosen from among a group of more than 120 eligible senior citizens to receive her lifelong wish—a chance to ride in a helicopter.

SunBridge Healthcare Corp., which owns the Cumberland center, teamed up with the Twilight Wish Foundation to sponsor Baird’s flight. Baird, who has diabetes and is an amputee, summed up her 20-minute Scenic Helicopters flight over Pigeon Forge in a simple phrase: “It was wonderful.” —Information from Knoxville News Sentinel Reporter Kristen Letsinger was used to compile this report.
