Rotorcraft Report: AgustaWestland Unveils Enhanced Version of AW119
AgustaWestland is offering an improved version of its AW119 light single. The AW119Ke Koala Enhanced includes a 286-lb (130-kg) increase in max takeoff weight to 6,283 lb (2,850 Kg.) and a main rotor whose blades have a new aerodynamic design and make greater use of composites.
Along with higher rotor rpm, the company said, the changes should improve payload and hot-and-high performance. AgustaWestland said offshore operators would get better payload and range characteristics, as would VIP/corporate and EMS operators. Law enforcement and homeland-security operators should get extended patrol time and greater cabin outfitting flexibility. The company said the aircraft already has been ordered by offshore, firefighting, and VIP/corporate operators.
The aircraft will retain the 1,002-shp Pratt & Whitney Canada PT6B-37A engine. All the upgrades incorporated into the AW119 Ke can be retrofitted to A119 Koalas already in service.
