Rolls-Royce in late December won FAA
type certification of its new 300-shp-class RR300, which will power Robinson Helicopter's first turbine, the five-seat R66. The manufacturer launched the RR300 program in January 2006, and so completed development, testing, and certification of the new engine in fewer than 24 months--and impressive feat. Rolls is now working on getting a production certificate from the FAA
so it can begin serial manufacturer of the powerplant, which Schweizer Aircraft
also has selected for its new, four-bladed S-434.
