Feds Investigating Van Nevel Helicopters

U.S. criminal investigators are delving into the records and operations of Van Nevel Helicopters and its affiliates. Investigators from the FBI, the U.S. Justice Dept., and the U.S. Transportation Dept.'s inspector general's office (which, in part, investigates criminal violations of FAA regulations) were looking into the Century, Fla.-based manufacturer before the Sept. 12, 2007 crash of one of its FH1100's in Hosston, La., according to federal officials. That crash killed the pilot and passenger and led to an intensified investigation in which the FAA also is participating. The NTSB is investigating the crash. Criminal investigators visited Van Nevel's offices in early January, seizing records there. Van Nevel's FH1100 Manufacturing Corp. bought the FH1100 type certificate in 1999 and has been re-manufacturing and building new FH1000. Van Nevel operates an associated flight school and had an FAA-approved repair station but surrendered the certificate for that last year. For related news
