USAF Orders V-22 Training Upgrades

Bell Boeing’s V-22 program has obtained a $34-million U.S. Air Force contract for new CV-22 trainers and upgrades to existing trainers. The contract calls for three new full-fuselage cabin operational flight trainers (COFTs) and a new wing part task trainer. One of the COFTs will be crafted from a CV-22 cabin part task trainer (CPTT) and two fuselage aircrew/maintenance trainers. Currently the CPTT is the only emergency egress training device for V-22s, but the new and upgraded COFTs will allow for egress, cargo, EMS and additional training options. Kirtland Air Force Base in New Mexico will receive a COFT and the wing part task trainer, with the remaining COFTs going to Hurlburt Field in Florida and Cannon Air Force Base, N.M. Training on the new COFTs is slated to begin in 2014 at all three bases.
