Sikorsky Wins $3.5 Billion Turkey Deal

Turkey’s Defense Industry Executive Committee has awarded Sikorsky a contract worth up to $3.5 billion for 109 international Black Hawks that will be used for utility and attack missions. The agreement involves helicopter assembly in Turkey, with Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI) serving as prime contractor and collaboration from other suppliers in Turkey and the U.S. Sikorsky will invest in the components capability of Alp Aviation, and the contact also includes a provision for 10 years of training and maintenance support. The Turkish Utility Helicopter (T-70) will be based on the S-70i, the international variant of the Black Hawk. Following the selection, AgustaWestland expressed disappointment in Turkey “opting for an old design of helicopter.” The Italian manufacturer offered its AW149 for the Turkish rotorcraft program.
