Eurocopter Strengthens Surion Commitment
Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI) and Eurocopter’s joint venture, KHDS, is reaching the end of its six-year development phase for the Surion. The Korean Utility Helicopter (KUH) program is the replacement for the Republic of Korea (RoK) Army’s fleet of utility and transport helicopters. A naval variant of the Surion is also being developed for the RoK Navy. The KUH anticipates the first of 245 Surions will be delivered in 2012. Eurocopter and KAI set up a sales and marketing joint venture, KAI-EC, in January 2011, projecting a market for around 250-300 Surions over the next decade.
