Rotorcraft Report: U.S. Army Names New CO For Aviation and Missile Command

The U.S. Army has named Maj. Gen. James Myles the sixth commander of the Aviation and Missile Command.

Myles assumed command July 19 in a ceremony at Redstone Arsenal, Ala. Previously he was the commanding general of the Army’s Test and Evaluation Command in Falls Church, Va. He was trained in the Army’s rotary-wing course, the UH-60 qualification course, and the fixed-wing qualification course. He has served in a variety of aviation units and was commissioned in 1974.

In his first assignment, Myles served as an infantry platoon leader with the 101st Airborne Div., (Air Assault) at Fort Campbell, Ky. In St. Louis, Mo., he served as the fixed-wing readiness project officer. His final company-grade assignment was as the aviation maintenance officer for the U.S. Readiness Command, MacDill AFB, Fla.

He commanded a company at Camp Casey, Korea and then moved to Fort Campbell, where he served in the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment for four years as the simulations officer and regimental executive officer.

His battalion command came with the 4th Battalion, 227 Aviation, 1st Cavalry Div. at Fort Hood, Texas. After assignments in the Middle East and Fort Hood, he commanded the Aviation and Missile Life-Cycle Management command.
