Rotorcraft Report: U.S. Army Stands Up Lakota Unit

Six new U.S. Army UH-72A Lakotas were delivered to the Air Ambulance Medical Detachment at Fort Irwin, Calif. on May, replacing the six UH-60 Black Hawks in that unit. The Army’s newest aircraft could free up UH-60 Black Hawks for use in Iraq and Afghanistan. The Lakota is not scheduled for deployment and carries essential medical equipment. The Lakota can carry six passengers or two medical litters and is equipped with a side-mounted hoist. The intent is for the Lakota to fly in support of domestic homeland security, disaster relief and law enforcement missions.
