Occupants Walk Away From OH-58 Crash

The pilot of an Army National Guard OH-58 Kiowa and the two passengers he had taken aloft on a marijuana eradication mission on June 4, survived an autorotation into Arkansas’ Buffalo River when the aircraft suffered an engine failure. Witnesses said the pilot, as well as an Arkansas State Police special agent and an agent of the Van Buren County Sheriff’s Department crawled out of the single engine helicopter after it hit the water. They waded to shore under their own power, leaving the aircraft upside down with only its skids protruding from the water. There is no immediate word on what caused the engine failure, but sources implied there was still fuel on board. All three occupants were taken to area hospitals where two were listed in good condition and the third as serious. See details and a photo of the accident
