New Mission Needed Mods

The Marine Heavy Helicopter Squadron 362, part of Special Purpose Marine Air Ground Task Force, was deployed from its base in Iraq to its current base in Afghanistan. The squadron was originally deployed to Iraq, January 23, to conduct assault support and logistics missions. They received notice of the move weeks ago and had to modify the CH-53D Sea Stallions in order to meet new mission/climate demands. The unit's maintenance team swapped out the T64-GE-413 engines to the hotter burning T64-GE-416s. Besides the modifications, the Marines partially dismantled the aircraft for transportation, sending the helos one at a time. HMH-362 began combat operations in Afghanistan April 22.
