X-Hawk Developer Eyes UAV Work

An Israeli research expects to know by June whether it will continue working with Bell Helicopter in developing its vertical-lift “fancraft” technology or find another U.S. partner. Yavne, Israel-based Urban Aeronautics, Bell, and Penn State University wrapped up an initial technical assessment of the X-Hawk fancraft in March. The work was for the U.S. Office of Naval Research. Separately, that office has put out a notice of its interest in a "sea -based air cargo delivery system for small combat units." Coincidentally, Urban Aeronautics has focused on an unmanned version of X-Hawk, called Mule, aimed at such missions. That effort is fostered by Israeli Defense Force interest in improving resupply and medevac support of distributed warfare units in the wake of last year’s muddled war in Lebanon. For related news
