Marines Complete Medevac Cross Training

A flight medic explains how to control a rescue litter during a hoist training exercise. Sgt. 1st Class Jeff Troth

The flight crews of Company C, 2nd General Support Aviation Battalion, 1st Aviation Regiment have wrapped up point of injury (POI) training with soldiers assigned to the 4th Brigade Special Troops Battalion. Using Sikorsky Black Hawks, the 4th Brigade—in the midst of preparing for an Afghanistan deployment—focused on nine-line medevac request exercises. These scenarios require the flight crew to be airborne within 15 minutes of receiving the call, while ground personnel mark the landing zone. The training also involved how to load patients into Black Hawks when the rotors are moving. To adequately prepare for Afghanistan’s mountainous terrain, the flight crews practiced rescue litter hoist training with the 1st Battalion, 28th Infantry Regiment.
