Kaman Aerospace and Lockheed Martin’s joint helicopter, the unmanned K-Max, has delivered more than 1 million pounds of cargo for the U.S. Marine Corps in Afghanistan. The two helicopters have flown six missions per day for the last four months, with delivery weights for a day ranging from 4,200 to 28,800 lbs in combat zones. “We are moving cargo without putting any Marines, soldiers or airmen at risk,” said Marine Corps Maj. Kyle O’Connor, who is in charge of the deployment. As a result of its performance, the Marine Corps extended the K-Max’s deployment through the end of September 2012.
