Unmanned K-MAX Continues Testing

During trials in late January, Kaman and Lockheed Martin continued to make strides in the testing of the unmanned K-MAX at the U.S. Army’s Yuma Proving Ground in Arizona. The helicopter conducted 16 airdrops from a sling load at 10,000 feet above sea level and 10 GPS-guided Joint Precision Aerial Delivery Systems (JPADS) deliveries. According to Kaman, other firsts achieved during the test flights include the largest payload (4,400 lbs) dropped using a sling load from a helicopter and first airdrop of the High Altitude Low Opening (HALO) parachute system.
