United Kingdom's Boeing Co. CH-47s Not Ready for Deployment

The United Kingdom’s Ministry of Defense has said the eight Boeing Co. CH-47 Mark 3 Chinooks purchased in 1995 will not be ready to deploy to Afghanistan and Iraq in 2009 as planned.  The aircraft had been purchased specifically to support special forces soldiers on the battlefields in Afghanistan and Iraq. The cost of the aircraft was £252 million ($512 million). The deployment has been delayed due to a failure to meet the U.K.’s airworthiness standards. The ministry said the Chinooks are being reconfigured as standard battlefield-support helicopters. For related news
