CH-53 Unit Reactivated in N.C.

The Marine Corps’ HMH-366 helicopter squadron, which was based in Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii and deactivated in 2000, was reactivated on Sept. 30 at Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point, N.C. The base, located in Havelock, approximately 115 miles southeast of Raleigh, will be the new home of the unit’s eight CH-53E Super Stallion heavy lift helicopters and a compliment of 111 aviators and support personnel. The unit is expected to grow to 340 Marines and 16 helicopters within the next year. The mission of HMH-366, under the command of Lt. Col. J.F. Harp, is to provide assault support, transport of troops, and the movement of supplies and equipment during expeditionary, joint or combined operations. It also stands ready for worldwide deployment in support of Marine air and ground operations. For related news
