Rotorcraft Report: Contracts

The Brazilian navy signed a letter of offer and acceptance with the U.S. government covering the planned purchase of four Sikorsky Aircraft S-70B Seahawks valued at almost $195 million (311 million reais). The letter also covers options for a further two Seahawks.

Bell Boeing Tiltrotor Team, Amarillo, Texas, is being awarded a $28.5 million contract for spare components for the U.S. Air Force CV-22. Work is to be performed in Hurst, Texas, and is expected to be completed by December 2011.

FLIR Systems won a $23.1 million delivery order from the U.S. Coast Guard for the Electro-Optical Sensor System program. FLIR will deliver variants of its TALON stabilized, multi-sensor system, which will be installed on HH-60 and HH-65 helicopters to enhance the Coast Guard’s airborne-use-of-force, drug-interdiction and search-and-rescue missions. Work is to be performed in FLIR’s North Billerica, Mass., facility.

Bell Aerospace Services, Ozark, Ala., was awarded a $7.8 million contract for refurbishment of UH-1 aircraft for the government of the Philippines. Work is to be performed in Ozark and is expected to be completed by Aug. 31, 2009.

Sikorsky Aircraft, Stratford, Conn., was awarded a $46 million contract for four UH-60Ms, material inspection and installation of auxiliary power unit kits. Work is to be performed in Stratford and is expected to be completed by Dec. 31, 2012.

General Atomics Aeronautical System, San Diego, Calif., was awarded a $34 million contract for logistics support for I-GNAT, Warrior Alpha and Sky Warrior unmanned aircraft systems at multiple locations. Work is to be performed in San Diego and is expected to be completed by Jan. 31, 2009.

AgustaWestland’s contracts for the Turkish Attack and Reconnaissance Helicopter Program have become effective. Work is to be performed at Turkish Aerospace Industries’ factory in Turkey. Under the contract, Turkey will be a party to the intellectual property rights of the new configurations for the helicopters.

Northrop Grumman received a 56-month, $240 million contract from Lockheed Martin to provide critical technologies for the Airborne and Maritime/Fixed Station Joint Tactical Radio (JTR) system. The two companies are partners for the system, with Northrop Grumman leading the Joint Tactical Radio team and responsible for co-development of the system’s small airborne hardware and software.

Bell Helicopter, Fort Worth, Texas, was awarded a $9.4 million contract for non-recurring engineering services to improve run-dry capabilities of the UH-1Y and AH-1Z main-rotor gearbox for increased survivability. Work is to be performed in Fort Worth and is expected to be completed in December 2012.
