USAF Assists RAF With Sea Rescue

Air Force officials have released information on a joint sea rescue with the British Royal Air Force that took place on a merchant vessel off the coast of Ireland. The incident, which occurred on Dec. 10, involved a crewmember aboard a container ship that had fallen and suffered life-threatening injuries. The RAF did not have any assets available to affect a medical transport from a ship 460 out at sea, and called upon the U.S. Air Force to deploy two helicopters and a pair of airborne tankers to reach the injured man. The RAF kept a surveillance aircraft on-station to help coordinate the operation. The joint effort was successful, resulting in the rescue of the injured seaman and his transport to an Irish hospital. For related news
