Tata Adds Boeing to List of India JVs

India's conglomerate Tata has added Boeing to its list of aerospace joint-venture partners. The subsidiary Tata Advanced Systems Ltd. and Boeing today said their new joint venture initially will create a “manufacturing center of excellence” to produce aerostructures for the AH-64 and to compete for additional manufacturing work other Boeing commercial and military platforms. (A long-term goal of the joint venture, Boeing said, is collaborative opportunities for developing and selling integrated systems.) Boeing and Tata agreed in July to collaborate on aerospace and defence manufacturing and integrated systems development. Tata already has a joint venture with Sikorsky Aircraft to build S-92 cabins and another with AgustaWestland to assemble AW119Kxs in Hyderabad. That joint venture, Indian Rotorcraft, was reported to have received approval last month from India’s Foreign Investment Promotion Board to set the assembly line.
