The Egyptian air force has completed 10 years of successful service with its fleet of Kaman Super Seasprite SH-2G(E)s, the manufacturer reports.
Egypt was the first international military force to select the Super Seasprite. The air force operates its nine Seasprites from land and aboard Egyptian navy vessels in a variety of maritime missions, including anti-submarine warfare, anti-ship surveillance and targeting, and search and rescue operations.
The Super Seasprites also are used extensively for vertical replenishment, personnel transfer, maritime coastal patrol and homeland security missions.
The nine aircraft have accumulated more than 8,000 hr of flight time.
"Individual missions can have the aircraft operating in a humid, marine environment as well as in the hot, windy and sandy conditions found in the Egyptian desert," said Bob Manaskie, Kaman Aerospace’s senior manager of SH-2G programs. "They also operate closely with the Egyptian navy conducting both local and international exercises, honing the operational skills required to operate in today’s challenging national defense environment."
Other international customers for the SH-2G include the Royal Australian Navy, the Royal New Zealand Navy, and Poland’s navy. The SH-2G fleet has accumulated more than 1.3 million flight hours, Kaman said, and has the highest power-to-weight ratio of any maritime helicopter.
