According to CAE, the latest version has a variety of new features and incorporates NVIDIA commercial off the shelf (COTS) graphics processors. Features include higher detailed synthetic environments giving realistic night scenes; images with higher resolution and better textures; together with weather graphics for rain, fog and 3-D cloud effects.
Other improved effects include lighting and shadowing, particularly correlated to the position of the sun and moon, as well as special effects including explosions and smoke.
Recent customer awards that benefit from the Medallion-6000 include the U.S. Army’s UH-72A Lakota flight simulation training devices and the SH-2G(I) helicopter full-mission flight simulator for the New Zealand Defense Force.
Marc St. Hiliaire, vice president of technology and innovation at CAE, said, “We are continuing to invest in technologies that will help our defense customers increase their use of high-performance synthetic environments for training, mission rehearsal and decision-support. The latest generation CAE Medallion-6000 image generator is a key part of our overall visual solution and the rendering engine that produces a highly immersive and realistic virtual world.”
