Rotorcraft Report:MD Makes Progress With Explorer Lines

PRODUCTS

MD Helicopters has logged some success with its MD-902 Explorer product line.

The National Health Authority of the Persian Gulf emirate of Qatar has decided to continue an air ambulance service using an Explorer following a six-month trial. The authority said it would expand the service, dubbed LifeFlight, to night-time hours in the near future. Round-the-clock service would start in September. The service is run together with Hamad Medical Corp. and Gulf Helicopters.

In the United States, California Shock Trauma Air Rescue was to receive another new MD Helicopters MD-902 last month.

The McClellan, Calif.-headquartered emergency medical services operator ordered five of the aircraft earlier this year to expand its fleet and replace its Bell Helicopter 222s.

The latest aircraft will allow the nonprofit CALSTAR to supplement a support base in Gilroy, Calif. and open a new base in Jackson, Calif. CALSTAR’s MD-902s are equipped for single-pilot instrument flight rules.
