Sierra Leone Investigating Mi-8 Crash
Sierra Leone’s president said he warned the country’s transport minister about local private commercial helicopters before a recent crash that killed 22 people. Ahmad Tejan Kabbah’s remarks are the first since the Russian-built Mi-8 Paramount Airlines helicopter crashed on June 3. The craft was coming in for a landing at the Lungi airport when it caught fire. An anti-graft agency is investigating if individuals took bribes allowing helicopters to fly that were not airworthy.
