Robinson Offers 'Less Expensive' Autopilot

Robinson Helicopter is offering the Genesys Aerosystems HeliSAS and autopilot on R44s and R66s equipped with Aspen Avionics' primary flight display. The Torrance, Calif., manufacturer had made the Genesys stability augmentation system on R66s fitted with Garmin's G500H avionics display system available in January after gaining FAA approval. It said it now has FAA approval for the R44 installation. Robinson added that the combination of the HeliSAS/autopilot and Aspen's EFD 1000H primary flight display "is a lighter, less expensive" system for both the R44 and turbine R66, and gives R44 pilots "all of the same modes and functionality" as the system on the R66. Functions include basic stability augmentation, heading hold, altitude hold, navigation signal tracking and approach guidance. One of several available models of the Garmin GTN navigator is also required for the Genesys/Aspen installation, Robinson said.
