Helicopter operators who would like a new aircraft but can’t wait years for delivery are instead making dramatic improvements to their existing helicopters — with help from BLR Aerospace.

Blur’s patented FastFin™ tail rotor enhancement and stability system, for example, improves productivity and safety while reducing pilot workload. The FastFin system modifies the tailboom with two parallel stall strips (Dual Tailboom Strakes) and a resculptured vertical fin, optimizing air-flow around the tailboom for dramatically improved handling.

BLR offers a range of aerodynamic enhancements for multiple Bell helicopter models.

With these simple changes, helicopter operators once limited to less than fully productive payloads can lift more. They achieve greater in-flight stability and operate in higher density altitudes with greater pay-loads. More and more operators are flying new and more challenging missions because BLR Technology makes it possible.

FastFin is available for Bell 212s and a range of UH-1 derivatives. It will soon be available for Bell 412s. The Bell 212 system is certified and ready for immediate delivery to customers in the U.S. and Canada, EASA certification pending. Certified Dual Tailboom Strakes are available for Bell 204B, 205A-1, 205B, 206B/L and 412 helicopters.

A recently completed BLR flight test program shows that Bell 212 helicopters equipped with the FastFin System significantly outperformed standard configured Bell 212s in OGE, 1GE, wind azimuth tolerance and hover stability.
