California Gov. Vetoes Drone Bills
California Gov. Jerry Brown has vetoed three UAS-related bills as part of a larger effort to maintain simplicity of the state's criminal code. Senate Bills 168, 170 and 271, all proposed by Sen. Ted Gaines, would have criminalized certain drone operations near fire and emergency areas, prisons and public schools, respectively. But in a blanket veto message, Brown said that the bills would have contributed to a California criminal justice environment "covering almost every conceivable form of human misbehavior." He added that legislators should consider how they can make the state's laws "more human, more just and more cost-effective." Seven other bills unrelated to UAS also were included in Brown's veto.
