Rotorcraft Report: Montana's Central Copters Takes K-Max

Kaman Aerospace’s Helicopters Div. has sold a K-1200 K-Max to Central Copters for oil and gas exploration.

Based in Belgrade, Mont., Central Copters is a multi-service helicopter company providing construction, fire suppression, personnel transport, and natural resource exploration services. "The K-Max lift performance offers a unique capability that Central needs," owner and President Mark Duffy said. It until now has operated Bells and Eurocopters.

Kaman Helicopters Div. President Sal Bordonaro said, "We look forward to a long and mutually beneficial relationship with this customer."

The K-Max is specifically designed for vertical reference flight. It has a 6,000-lb (2,772-kg) on-the-hook capacity, with a 5,000-lb (2,268-kg) capability at 8,000 ft (2,446 m). The K-Max fleet has accumulated more than 200,000 flight hours since the aircraft was certified in 1994. K-Max helicopters are operating in Europe and Australia, Canada, Colombia, Japan, South Korea, and the United States.

Kaman is based in Bloomfield, Conn.
