Rotorcraft Report: Axsys Targets Integrated Surveillance Needs

PRODUCTS | MISSION EQUIPMENT

Axsys Technologies has reorganized its operations to offer current and potential customers streamlined, integrated, high-definition surveillance capabilities.

The Rocky Hill, Conn. company, which last year acquired the video camera and infrared imager company Cineflex, has divided its operations in two. The Imaging Systems segment designs and manufactures custom, high-precision optical and motion-control subsystems, typically for defense targeting, navigation, and surveillance systems. The Surveillance Systems segment designs, manufactures, and sells military-grade camera systems, primarily used for long-range applications such as surveillance, reconnaissance and threat detection.

"We can now offer a more comprehensive package on intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance," said Randy Moore, group president of Surveillance Systems. That unit combines Axsys expertise in ground systems with Cineflex’s heritage of stabilized-camera systems, including those for airborne applications. Cineflex made its name in electronic newsgathering, broadcast services, and feature-film production, and Axsys is intent on continuing to serve those markets, Moore said, adding the company also wants to convey the capabilities of its integrated systems to homeland-security and disaster- and emergency-response officials.
