Md. State Police Receive $ Upgrades

The $33.6 million will help to upgrade or replace some of aviation command’s fleet. Nine of the 12 Dauphins are nearing the end of two decades and are used to fly aerial law enforcement, search and rescue, homeland security and disaster assessment missions. Originally, the police dept was considering buying new helicopters, but have settled on the Eurocopter upgrades. Md. State Police are the only police dept in the country flying the Dauphins. The dept covers more than 12,000 sq mi. with a population of more than five million. Most of their Eurocopter AS365 Dauphins have already been upgraded twice since being purchased. For related news

1.
This article which indicates that the Maryland State Police \"have settled on the Eurocopter upgrades\" is inaccurate. Maryland\'s study as to whether we will upgrade versus purchasing a new fleet has not yet been completed and is continuing. Sincerely, Major A. J. McAndrew, Commander, MSP Aviation Command
