Spring, Texas-based Aviation Auctions has introduced a new website dedicated to idle, surplus and obsolete helicopters and fixed-wing aircraft, as well as major components. Auctions are set to run quarterly. The first is scheduled to take place on Thursday, Sept. 9, including listings for two Bristow-owned Sikorsky S-76As. FAA Qualifies CAE 3000 Sim to Level 7
CAE has obtained FAA Level 7 qualification for its CAE 3000 helicopter mission simulator—a Eurocopter AS350B2 flight training device (FTD) based at Sky Harbor Intl Airport (PHX) in Phoenix, Ariz. The Montreal-based training company has four other locations for helicopter training—in Morristown, N.J. (Rotorsim AgustaWestland AW139/Sikorsky S-76); Bangalore, India (Bell 412); Dubai (Bell 412); and Sesto Calende, Italy (Rotorsim AW109/AW139). Sikorsky’s X2 technology demonstrator reached 225 knots in recent flight trials at the manufacturer’s Development Flight Center in West Palm Beach, Fla. The mark breaks the previous top speed for a helicopter, set at 216 knots by a Westland Lynx 800 in 1986. Sikorsky is targeting 250 knots for the X2 by the end of third quarter 2010.
