Captain David Strand Boeing 757/767 Program Manager and Technical Pilot

Captain David Strand is currently the Boeing 757/767 Program Manager and Technical Pilot for American Airlines. His responsibilities include the day-to-day as well as strategic activities for American’s 200 aircraft B-757 and B-767 fleets including oversight of a $250 million avionics upgrade. David also has responsibility for American’s NextGen activities, operations planning for CNS aircraft retrofits and numerous industry activities involving U.S. and International operations.
As a 24-year veteran of American, David has managed numerous programs and their operational approvals including RVSM, Polar operations, ATC Datacom, RNP SAAAR and the launch of service to India, Russia and China. His numerous industry representation’s include several RTCA and ATA committees, over 10 years as chairman of the IATA North Atlantic/North American Regional Coordinating Group and represents IATA to the ICAO North Atlantic Implementation Management Group and Systems Planning Group. David also has received the RTCA Citation for Leadership Award as well as the American Airline’s prestigious “Spirit of American” Award.
David has Bachelors and Masters of Science degrees in Meteorology with minors in Mechanical Engineering, Physics and Music. He began his airline career with Delta Air Lines as a Meteorologist and later as an Aircraft Dispatcher. After 8 years at Delta, he was hired as a pilot with American Airlines where he has flown the Boeing 767, 757, 727, DC-10, and MD-80 aircraft. David is a native of Atlanta, GA, where he has been married to his wife, Donna, for 23 years. His additional interests include astronomy, electronics, and music performance having performed and recorded on low brass with numerous classical music groups including the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra and the Dallas Wind Symphony.
